Our First Home
Updated: Jan 14
Well, we did it - on June 1st, 2020, we finally bought our house! Work is underway so that we can move in at the beginning of July. The property is a bit of an odd one - you can read about it here. The first phase of renovations is to update The Guest House as this is the house we will be living in for a year or two while we renovate the main house.
Here are the photos of the guest house from the estate agent's listing. As you can see, the interior style the former owners seemed to favour was 'My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding'. So many colours and mirrors and odd-shaped shiny things.
Here's what the house looked like on the day we got the keys. On the plus side, there were far fewer headboards that looked like set pieces from adult films. On the downside, there was a lot more dirt.
We're now meeting with an endless list of contractors to get the vital updates done within a month. While I really don't like those faux marble floors, I think for the moment, those will stay. Ugh. But, the bathrooms are definitely disappearing, thank heavens. I'm really torn on the kitchen cabinets. They're new, they're in good shape, but they are shiny fire-truck red. If anyone has any pro-tips on how to paint over laminate, let me know!
